Orthognathic Surgery

Sometimes the growth of the upper and lower jaws can occur at different rates causing a discrepancy in size and function. Corrective jaw surgery treats and corrects abnormalities of the facial bones, specifically the upper and lower jaws. Orthodontic treatment is usually used in conjunction with corrective jaw surgery to align the teeth properly as well as the jaws. Orthognathic surgery is performed by an oral surgeon. The orthodontist and oral surgeon will collaborate on the needs of each individual patient prior to beginning and throughout the course of treatment
